Some days I don’t feel very princess-y. Even though I know I am special, unique, treasured, valuable (and all those other affirmations we say every day ladies)… yet with no makeup, when hair is a mess and my home looks like this castle was attacked my “royal” crown starts to feel like I don’t deserve it. I’m growing more to learn that identity has little to do with feelings, it about belief and knowledge. Personal identity is defined in a different manner…
Identity: 1. the condition of being oneself or itself, and not another 2. the character as to who a person or what a thing is; the qualities, beliefs, (etc.) that distinguish or identify a person or thing
Identity comes from confidence about who you are regardless of circumstance. It can be based on facts, statements we have told ourselves, words others have said to us, or what we hold as truths.
If I don’t feel royal because I am having a bad hair day then “my look” is what determines my identity and it shouldn’t.
If I don’t get a position because I am not the “right fit” or have more than the qualifications required for the company, that shouldn’t impact my identity.
If a guy says they don’t see a long term relationship because we aren’t compatible (and have completely different values), that doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with me or my identity.
Identity is about knowing.
Knowing who you are.
No matter what situation arises.
Healthy inner identity says “because I am…
…strong, smart, beautiful, capable, precious & I have a extremely high worth, I will continue to move forward each day with my head held high”….
Identity becomes more permanent if you allow it to grow roots from a renewed and transformed mind to your spirit.
Keep your crown straight. You are made in the great image of God and He says you are royalty…
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 NIV
